(C 8.5 & I 8.5.3)。From the Concepts of Sustainable Forest Management to Reality: Practical Steps for PEFC Forest Management Criteria(C 8.5 & I 8.5.3).

PEFCProgramme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification,森林驗證認可計畫)與FSC (Forest Stewardship Council,森林經營委員會),同為全球兩大森林驗證系統。

8. Operation運營

8.5 Maintenance or appropriate enhancement of protective functions in forest management (notably soil and water).

8.5.3 The special care shall be given to forestry operations on sensitive soils and erosion-prone areas as well as in areas where operations might lead to excessive erosion of soil into watercourses. Techniques applied and the machinery used shall be suitable for such areas. Special measures shall be taken to minimize the pressure of animal populations on these areas.

PEFC and FSC are the two biggest names in forest certification. So, what's the difference between these two systems? Are they asking forest managers to do completely different things to get certified? Let's dive into PEFC and see what it takes to get certified. 8. Operation

Preparation of possible information:

For areas where soil erosion is prone and ecology is fragile, more prudent forestry practices should be taken; technology and machinery should be selected that have less impact on soil erosion, and the number and range of animals should be controlled to reduce soil damage.

Therefore, organizations should prepare the following data:

1.         Provide maps of sensitive areas, including: erosion-prone areas, water conservation areas, etc., as well as data and analysis results of soil erosion monitoring.

2.         Provide forestry practices for sensitive areas, including applicable technology and machinery.

3.     Provide animal management plans for sensitive areas.
